Field Guide to the Outer Banks Print

The Outer Banks are a 200 mile stretch of barrier islands separating the south-eastern Virginian and North Carolina coast from the Atlantic ocean. European settlers arrived to the islands as early as the 1500s, though the land had been settled as long as a thousand years earlier by the Algonquin, Chowanog, and Poteskeet tribes.
